"The night...it's now wonder why it's so preferred over the day. Much cooler, much more quiet...and washed of color as it is by the moon, it becomes much more beautiful simply to look at, thoughts drifting away on the wind..." Looking down to the book open on his knees, he tapped his pen against its pages, thinking as he did so about this and that. It was slow going, his thinking. For he had to think about much to get only a little of value out of it. He had already recorded so much, that it was becoming diffucult to find new information to record. There were many subjects left to fill in, naturally, but information on them was scarce, at best. Information on the human relationship and interaction with the supernatural was one which dominated nearly a tenth of the massive tome, and would likely take up even more space within its pages. But...looking at the pages, it became clear to him that he couldn't write anymore tonight. Several pages were fill with fresh ink, notes and observations of little importance to the greater mission, but of critical importance to his observations. And so, with a light sigh, he closed the large text, replacing the cap on the pen and stowing it within a pocked in his shirt. Placing the book on the sand beside him, he picked up anothe, smaller, volume. A book of poetry and short stories. By who? Edgar Allen Poe. The writings within the book, the so-called 'complete works' of the aforementioned author, were of mild interest to Ezekiel. They were of a darker sort, mostly, and they were wondrous to pass the time. Reading them, pondering their meaning, if there was any meaning, and just generally enjoying the wonders of great literary works. It was his most preferred, and in truth, his only real pastime. Opening the book, he turned the pages slowly, bypassing the poems in the front of the book, turning to the short stories in the back, and finally stopping at "The Tell-Tale Heart". It was one of his favorites, because...well, in the truth of things, it reminded him, in a way, of himself. So quick to deny and find an alternate answer to things, but always, in the end, found out because of his 'conscience' and forced to tell the truth...was that himself? No, it couldn't be...he had never done any such thing. It would be something to ponder in depth at a later time. But for now, he dove into the reading of the text, letting his mind form a visual of the story, listening to the gentle sound of the waves as he read through the story, slowly reclining back until he lay on his back, the book in his hands framed by the light of the half moon in the sky above. As so often happened, his mind was free, for a short while, of his worries and cares for his 'mission', and just...free to wander.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - The perfect time to jog around the beach, without seeming odd to have a jacket on in the humidity, obviously had to be midnight. When the air's crisp and bone chilling. Sunni had to wear a jacket to hide her scares, and since no one really came out at midnight at the beach, she had it zipped opened. Of course none of her scares were visible sine they're located on her upper arms and her back. Sunni had her hair pulled up into a pony tails, her ITOUCH plugged into her ears listening to Hoobastank - The Letter.
After passing a pier she unintentionally glanced over to the side and noticed a male sitting along the beach with his nose buried in a book or something. She slowed her jogging pace until she came to a slow walk. Why is he still out here? Your usually not suppose to be out here at midnight. I mean... unless you sneaked around like myself. Sunni tugged on her earplugs until they fell. She slowly made her way to the guy and stuffed the earphones in her pocket.
Sunni stopped a couple feet away, you never know what strangers will do at a time like this. "Hey. Your not supposed to be out here at this time." Sunni smirked inwardly,Speak for yourself. Look for all he knows I could be a late patrol person jogging around to make sure no one was still on the beach or even in the water. Sunni placed both hands on either side of her hips, trying to catch some air.

Just as he was getting to perhaps his 'favorite' part of the short tale, something broke into his 'vision' of the story, bringing him back to the real world with a rather sudden jerk. He blinked a few times, then slowly he put a marker in the book, closing it just as slowly. "Well, it can't be helped...I'm here, regardless of whether I'm supposed to be or not." He did his best not to be...'rude', was it? Instead, he sounded almost...bored. Or maybe it was sleepy? It was hard to tell, his voice was just so...flat. Empty, hollow, and...old? It was hard to judge anything just by voice alone on the best of occasions, but it would be downright impossible to decipher Ezekiel's voice.
He slowly sat up, brushing sand out of his hair, and then, still in no hurry, he got to his feet. He stretched for a moment, then put his hands in his pockets as he turned to face his 'visitor' here on the beach. If her attire was any judge, she was out for a run, or something similar. Not the most bizarre thing he'd ever witnessed, but it was odd. If no one was supposed to be here at this time, it seemed a bit odd that another person, who was here even though she shouldn't be, would reprimand him for being here. That was what it was...it was a repriman, right? Or was it just...a statement... Subtle, small things like these were what drove him batty trying to figure them out.
He was so used to things simply being said exactly as they were, without any kind of hidden meaning or different meanings entirely, joking or not, that he was still having diffuculty adjusting to such things, even after all his years on the Earth. "But it raises the question, if you know no one is supposed to be here, then why are you here? He tilted his head an inch or so to the left as he asked the question, just staring right at her. He still hadn't grasped that such things could be rather...awkward, at best.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Something didn't fit about his presence to Sunni. She observed the guy noting every detail. The first thing she noted had to be his eyes. They appeared darker than any human she's encountered. Next, she noticed he wore practically black. Human's would classify the fellow as "Goth" or "Emo" but Sunni, being an angel -fallen or not- knew this could only mean one thing. She dropped her hands from her hips. Inside Sunni was surprised and nervous, but she forced herself to appear casual on the outside. The real question is...are you an evil or a good demon
"Well, it can't be helped...I'm here, regardless of whether I'm supposed to be or not." Sunni narrowed her eyes. That sounded rude. Fine, I can play that game. Sunni took a step back when he started to stand up,"Well your not." Sunni stood her ground when he casually glanced over her direction and said,"But it raises the question, if you know no one is supposed to be here, then why are you here?" Wouldn't you like to know. Sunni displayed a smirk when she spoke,"Let's just say I like to break the rules." I've done it upstairs, I can do it here as well.
Sunni's not always so rude or mean to just anyone. Only to people she doesn't know or in this case is a supernatural being like a demon. But a few can say that once you get to really know Sunni she's kindhearted and very sweet. It's just something she picked up here on Earth. A bone chilling breeze tickled Sunni's skin making goosebumps appear. She hugged herself to try and keep warm. When your a fallen angle you feel everything human's do. So pretty much your a human... whose immortal.

He watched in silent observation, as he often did, as she apparently observed him. It has obvious enough when someone was paying careful attention and observing details, especially when he spent so much time doing so himself. He could almost feel when someone was making such observations near him. He could only hope her analytical skills weren't too keen. If she picked up on his...secret, it could prove a small problem. Not that any human ever would, or could, but...it was stioll possible, remote as such a possibility was.
And then...her reaction to his statement. If her expression was any judge, it had been offensive or rude in some way. Not exactly his intention, but...these things happened at times. And then, her response. It was...puzzling, to say the least. Not in any great way, but it still seemed just a little...strange. Well, at least to him, it did. He didn't show it, or give voice to his confusion, but mentally he tried to figure it out. Perhaps, judging by the smirk...it was meant as some sort of joke... It's possible. Either that, or she's just being human.
After a few silent moments, he brought his hands from his pockets and shrugged. "To each their own, I suppose." he said dryly, before letting his arms drop to his sides. He watched her for a few moments, then turned away and knelt down to pick up his books. He brushed a bit of sand from them, then straightened back up. As he did so, and the breeze blew across the area, he sighed mentally. He felt it, yes, but...it didn't feel the same it would to a human. It was just moving air, the chill of it was lost on him.
As he turned back to fave Sunni, he noticed her apparently hugging herself. It was something he had seen humans do many times, especially when it was 'cold'. It was a bit peculiar to him, but he had never bothered to find out exactly why they did it. That was something for another day, however. Instead, he simply asked the obvious question. "Cold?" He didn't fully understand being cold, so...it wasn't exactly completely obvious to him.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Wait a minute. Is he observing me too? Why should I care, he can't possibly find out I'm a fallen angel, I'm too human. "To each their own, I suppose" Sunni crossed her arms,He's speaking too proper. Just adds on to the fact he has to be a bloody Demon. But since he is one... why is he just...watching. Usually they makes trouble for people. He's different. Maybe's he's good? Sunni smirked. Doesn't mean I'm going to be nice to him any time soon.
"Cold?" Sunni rolled her eyes and glanced off to the side, watching the waves crash onto the Earth. He must like asking obvious questions. Sunni then returned her attention to the guy,"No, I just like hugging myself." Her words were dripping with sarcasm. For a demon who might find people discovering what they are troublesome, he sure doesn't hide the little details people can pick up. He didn't shiver one bit. Sunni rolled her eyes again,"Why? Are you going to offer your jacket or something?" More sarcasm dripped from her words.

Perhaps it was what he said, or perhaps the way he said it, but...he had a feeling, as impossible as it may have seemed, she was catching on to him. Add on to the fact that, with how she had been paying attention, it wouldn't be hard to miss the fact he hadn't been bothered by the chill breeze in the slightest...it would be obvious something was up, to someone of even remote intelligence.
He could always just play it off as being used to the cold. That was a good excuse, at times. But...that wasn't it. He would still need to be much more careful, if she was even half as aware as he was beginning to suspect. And then she started speaking. The sarcasm on her words was evident. Yes...that was one thing he had picked up on, even if he didn't perfectly have its uses down yet. Sarcasm...it was so unnecessary...
"Your sarcasm is...almost hurtful..." he said quietly, closing his eyes and shaking his head just slightly. He tilted his head to the left at her mention of offering his jacket. "My jacket...? I don't really have need for it, so I suppose I could." He shrugged lightly. "But I have a feeling you wouldn't take it.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - "Your sarcasm is...almost hurtful.." Sunni laughed with a smirk close behind,"Guess I need to try harder then." I have to admit it's pretty amusing to upset a demon. Though if he holds some kind of extreme power balled up inside that can kill me... it will hurt, but I won't die. I hate pain... "My jacket...? I don't really have need for it, so I suppose I could." Sunni crossed her arms, staring at him blankly. There he goes again with his proper speaking. "But I have a feeling you wouldn't take it." Sarcasm seeped off her tongue,"Well, well... look at the big boy answering his own obvious question." If he was anyone else-meaning anyone but a questionable demon- I'd actually consider taking his jacket.
Another breeze came with a powerful wave that crashed into the sand grains, stretching out to them. Sunni could feel herself starting to shiver. She decided to zip up her jacket, which help about none. Sunni stuffed her hands in her pockets, forcing her teeth not to chatter. Ok. I really need to get out of the cold, or I'm going to catch a cold. And those last about three to four days.

With a light sigh, Ezekiel touched two fingers to his temple. It was just a bit...amusing, was that the word? Yes, that was it. And so, it was with the just the slightest traces of a smirk he responded in turn... "I guess you do." He shrugged idly at her apparent disdain at his next choice of words. It was clear...she disliked him, or seemed to. Which made little sense to him, but it was obvious as to why: he wasn't exactly what most would call a 'nice' person. Sociable, yes; friendly, he tried to be; but nice? that was beyond his scope most of the time.
Must all humans be so insistently sarcastic? Or is it just the ones I have encountered? I can only hope this is not an accurate judge of the full scope of humanity. But it would prove to be an interesting side note in my text. The human capacity for sarcasm is truly unrivalled. As he began to speak again, he shook his head slightly with another light shrug.
"It was merely an offer, nothing more. The biting sarcasm is unnecessary." He turned away from Sunni as he said this. "Now, I must be on my way, since as you stated yourself, no one is supposed to be here." He started to walk away, tucking his free hand into the pocket of his jacket as he did so. "I might suggest you do the same, else you catch a cold from staying out here," he said offhandedly. Truth be told, he didn't really care. He had no business to. But...he felt it must be said.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - While he went his way Sunni took a moment to herslef. She sighed and ran both hand though her long blond locks. Ok, so he's not coldhearted, but it's hard for me to just trust someone off the bat and be all hapy go free. I mean... he's questionable...ugh... but I can't be a bitch to someone like him. Sunni groaned. Play nice, but don't seem bloody schizophrenic. On a hop, Sunni caught up to Ezekiel and parked herself beside him. She slowly walked by him, listening to the waves crash.
Sunni regain her sudden move beside him by saying,"I'm not following you. I live this way." She absently glanced up at him then back to the sand beneath her feet. I should somehow prove he's a Demon. The eyes and darkness feel should be enough, but I don't know... Sunni rolled her eyes and cleared her throat. She avoided any contact with his eyes while she spoke. "So what's in that book of yours anyway?" She could care less, but chose to start a conversation if that's what you'd call it, was better than silence.

He hadn't gone more than a few steps before Sunni had caught up with him, and seemed to start walking alongside him. It was just slightly odd, but he let it go. He didn't really have much to be concerned about. If she was following him, or if she wasn't, she would leave eventually. Her comment about not following him only made him shrug slightly. He had a nagging feeling it wasn't the truth, but...he didn't give voice to that.
It was with a barely noticable stiffening of his spine that he set into a slight 'panic' when she asked him about his book. He never liked discussing the subject. It never got any easier no matter how many times the subject was approached. And this time was the same. "It's...nothing of importance. Just a book passed down my family. It's....a story, of a sort, which hasn't been finished and most likely never will be." He could only hope that she would let it drop at that.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - "Well..that's..." she paused,"...Awesome." Sunni tried to say it nicely, but her tone came out sarcastic with a hint of 'that's stupid'. Sunni had an out there thought,Call him out. Spike his interest. He's a Demon. Sunni sighed, gaining speed and walked in front of Ezekiel. She walked backwards as he walked forwards. Sunni tilted her head slightly,"Your a Demon aren't you." She didn't necessarily ask it, because she knew deep down.
She stopped abruptly in front of him and crossed her arms. Come on...admit it. She watched him, curious to see what his reaction would be to a girl like her knowing something of the supernatural. After a moment a life guard came running out from behind Ezekiel demanding them to get off the beach. Sunni smirked a bit then turned to leave.

"...Indeed..." Ezekiel mumbled. He was glad she wasn't going to ask anymore about it, and was willing to overlook her tone and the way she said it. It was what happened next, however, that actually got a real response. As she sped up to get in front of him, then started walking backwards, he raised an eyebrow slightly in confusion. And then she asked...or, rather, told him...he was a demon.
His back stiffened and he came to a dead halt, just staring at her. He didn't really know what kind of reaction to have. Nothing seemed appropriate. However, in the end, he just sighed. "How clever of you to figure it out. It wasn't a direct admission, but it was close enough. "I would ask how you managed to figure it out...but it doesn't really matter at this point."
And when the lifeguard came running up behind him, Ezekiel turned his head, looking at person out of the corner of his eyes. "...We were just leaving, I believe." And then he just started on his way again. Mentally, he was troubled. This girl had managed to figure out he was a demon...if she told anyone else, and they believed her, things could get problematic...especially if word got out to the wrong sort of people.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Bingo ! Sunni smiled in triumph when he abruptly stopped. His complexion didn't show much, but Sunni could read his mysterious eyes and tell she hit a nerve. He semi=commented on her cleverness. it doesn't take much to figure you 'people' out when your an angel. Fallen or not. Sunni crossed her arms when he spoke. She couldn't hold back the rolling of the eyes. "Lie. If you know what that even means. How someone like me figured out what you really are so quickly is eating you. You should know, that it would matter to you if you knew who I was."
Sunni already had a head start when the Life Guard tried to run them off. In a reasonable manner. Sunni wanted to skip all the way home. Wait a minute. Sunni's hand clinched a bit, but she kept walking. Keeping the two feet distance between her and the demon. "t's...nothing of importance. Just a book passed down my family. It's....a story, of a sort, which hasn't been finished and most likely never will be." Is he taking note on God's humanity? For crying out loud he could be a spy or something. If only I had my wings back I could warn someone upstairs.
Sunni glanced over her shoulder to the demon then returned her unsure eyes forward. For Sunni to regain her wings in her state, she had to save a life. Which shouldn't be too hard, but Sunni wants to save and guard someone who's worth it. And that's hard to find. She sighed. I could always find an angel. I should be able to tell and find one. Guess that's my plan.

He tilted his head back just slightly, just enough to give the appearance of seriously observing her for a brief instant, a dark, menacing gleam in his eyes. Then the effect was lost and he sighed lightly. In that brief instant, he had seriously contemplated breaking this miserable human in half and letting the ocean take her. It wouldn't be the first time, and it likely would not have been the last. But it would serve no real purpose, save to incite unnecessary action at a later time.
Dismissing the idea, he resigned himself to this 'fate' he had been forced into. "Perhaps I know more than you think and simply deem it unnecesary to have cause for concern. Had that thought never crossed your mind? I know very well that only those of the angelic order could determine a demon simply by appearance." He narrowed his eyes just slightly. "And if you should decide to report my prescence, know that it will be a waste of time."
His expression returned to 'normal' after he had said this. That is, vague and distant, and seemingly like he was bored with the world. "It will not be the first time I have been reported. Nor, most liekly, will it be the last..." He looked away for a moment, seeming as he was contemplating saying something more, but shook his head. "But do as you wish.
