"You grab some something to eat with us? Or if you want it can just be you and me?"
Mattie pulled her phone out of her pocket to check the time. Seeing that it was late enough for her mother to actually notice she was gone, Mattie considered saying no. "I-" She cut herself off. You really want to go home to crying, beating, and screaming? Come on, Mattie. Just say yes... Obeying that voice in her head, Mattie nodded, "Sure. It doesn't matter to me." She smiled faintly back at Ashton before returning her gaze to the ground. I'd rather eat with just Ashton, but it'd be rude to cut his friends out.
Mattie looked up at Ashton's friends and unconditionally tugged her bangs behind her ear. She then remembered Ashton's friend being curious to know her name. She opened her mouth to tell him but quickly shut it. Later...maybe if he asks again. Mattie then thought she heard footsteps behind her and spun around to see...nothing. I'm being paranoid. Though she didn't see anything, her body tensed as she turned slowly back around. She tried her best not to look back again, but failed. It was only a glance over her shoulder.

[/i] Jared and Kevin both glance at one another wearing a rather large smirk across their complextions. Jared popped up beside Ashton and whispered, "Is there something going on between you two I should know about?" Ashton chuckled, "No, afraid not." A twig snapped and the next thing they know Sam comes busting in the scene behind Mattie. Swiftly he grabbed her around the waist and muttered out loud, "Well, well, well... here's one fine lady. Names Sam."[/b] Ashton narrowed his eyes and clinched his fist, "Cut it out, Sam." Jared had Ashton's back, "Leave her alone, Sam. She's not yours." Jared smirked to Ashton. After a long moment of Sam being his EGO self believe h could take Mattie home and she'd fall in love with him, they made it to the resturant in town. Everyone plopped down around Mattie, so Ashton took the empty seat just across from her. Sa grinned, "I know I must be too fine to seat next to, but your one lovely peice of-"[/b] Jared snapped in before Ashton had a chance, Stop, your grossing her out."[/b] Sam returned the smirk, "How can 'I' gross her out? I mean look at me."[/b] Ashton smiled, "That's our Hero."[/b] All the guys bust out laughing. Ashton watched Matte and offered a smile. She must feel awkward and left out. The waitress finally came to their table and ask what they wanted to drink. When hands suddenly went around her waist, Mattie jumped and turned her head to see another boy. "Well, well, well... here's one fine lady. Names Sam." Mattie narrowed her eyes, staying silent. Please get off of me... is what Mattie wished she would have said, but went against herself and was silent. Once Sam let go, Mattie spun around and took a big step back. He must have been what I heard...footsteps. But why hadn't I seen him? Because he was hiding, of course.
Being in the center of attention was one of those things Mattie couldn't stand. Which is one reason why she hates school. Because of her obsession with drawing, her teachers always call on her. And when she doesn't have an answer. That is, unless she's in photography or drawing class. Then her attention is on the teacher the whole time. When everyone but Ashton plopped down beside her at the restaraunt, she looked at the table. "I know I must be too fine to seat next to, but your one lovely peice of-" Mattie lifted her head and looked at Sam. Ego...
Mattie returned Ashton's smile with another smile. When the waitress asked her what she wanted to drink, Mattie answered with,"Water." Her hands were in her lap and little did she know, her burn was clearly visible.

[/i][/b] Sam said trying to be "cool". Ashton laughed, "Your not even old enough Sam. You have at least a month before your legal." Sam growled to Ashton, and the waitress let out a small giggle. All the guys ordered different drinks. If you were to listen carefully and actually think about it, the drinks they chose really describes them. Jared got coka cola, which could mean he's a classic old fashion guy. Kevin got mellow yello, which could describe his wack personallity. At first he was mello now he's a wild child. Sam tried to order beer, and well he's just a big fat EGO. After a moment Sam just went with Dr.Pepper. Dr.EGO. Plain and simple. Ashton was up next to order his drink, "I'll just have sweet tea, thanks." Sweet tea, sweet, and refreshing. Ashton laughed to himself and smiled. "So, new girl, have a boyfriend?"[/b] Jared iterrupted Sam before he could ask the question, "I highly doubt she'll go out with you Sam. Am I right?"[/b] He glanced over to Matties direction with a smirk. Ashton sighed, My friends can never be just.... normal. From outside a thunderstorm was well on it's way. Ashton turned to see rain already pooring down. He returned his attention back to the table where Sam was acting like a baby. "Hey, you'd go out with me right? I mean come... look at this."[/b] He flexed his muscles to Mattie. "Alright, alright come on guys, stop." Kevin perked up to Ashton defending her. "Hey! Ashton, I got a dare for you."[/b] Ashton tensed. Everything about him was telling him this was going to turn for the worst, but a smirk still displayed on her lips. I can never say no to a dare. "I dare you to kiss the girl !" Ashton laughed along with the other boys. Jared spoke first, "Oh come on Kev, your dares too disrespectful. She doesn't want to kiss this fool!" Ashton punched Jared playfully, , "Hey, hey, I'm one heck of a guy to be kissing!" Kevin stood from his seat, "I dared you Ash, that means you have to do it!" Ashton shrugged, "Fine." He stood from his seat and leaned over the table since she was just across anyway. He gently grabbed her chin and pulled it closer to him. Inches away from her lips he turned her head a tad and planted a simple kiss on her cheek. Ashton smirked and sat back down. Kevin roared, "Hey! That's cheating!"[/b] Ashton laughed, "You didn't say where to kiss her." Kevin plopped back into his seat and crossed his arms like a little boy who didn't get his way. "Hey, you'd go out with me right? I mean come... look at this." Mattie glanced over to Sam and watched him flex his muscles. She laughed silently and smiled. Give him a good answer... "I..." She thought a moment. I can't give him a no, I'm jsut too nice. And if I give him a yes, it'll turn for the worst. Maybe. That's the answer. I hope. "Maybe...?" She replied. Hopefully he doesn't take that as a chance. Mattie glanced at a window when she heard thunder and rain. Oh Conway...such an unpredictable town. It was just sunny half an hour ago, and now it was storming. If you didn't live here, you'd be so confused. But Mattie was used to it.
Mattie glanced down at her lap to see her burn on her wrist. Her eyes slightly widened but instead of covering it, she just stared at it. I hope they didn't see. I'm sure they didn't. I mean, they probably would have asked. I hope so... Mattie took a glance at the two sitting beside her. They didn't seem to act like they noticed and she relaxed. Maybe if they did see it, they thought it was a bracelet. It kind of looks like one, I guess. People have made that mistake before. Kevin's voice interuppted her thoughts and she looked up, forgetting to cover the burn.
"I dare you to kiss the girl !"
Mattie blinked and looked over at Kevin. Please not be talking about me. "Oh come on Kev, your dares too disrespectful. She doesn't want to kiss this fool!" She was actually amused, but didn't show it. Why'd I have to say yes to coming here? Then again, it is better than listening to all that chaos. Mattie watched Ashton stand and lean over the table, gently gabbing her chin to pulling her closer. She tensed and narrowed her eyes, but when he just planted a simple kiss on her cheek she relaxed. Thank you...much better than the lips.

[/i][/b] Ashton rolled his eyes. Jared said something else but Ashton didn't catch it. He was busy watching Mattie across the table. He felt like this whole thing was a bad idea. She must feel the same way. Total morons sitting around her, and she doesn't know any of them. Jared nudged Ashton in his side to grab his attention. Ashton directed his attention to Jared. "Ash," he started whispering, "We need to talk. Later. Outside maybe for a few minutes. I have to tell you something."[/b] Ashton raised a brow in curiousity. Both Jared and Ashton grew up together, the closest in this pack of misfits. Ashton nodded, "Yea sure."After the simple kiss on her cheek he could help but want more. He sat in his seat while Kevin complained and actually started to look her over. She was a natural beauty, nothing like the party girls you see on TV. Not to mention she doesn't try hard to dress that part. Ashton smiled faintly. To his side Jared glanced between Ashton and Mattie, wearing a frown. The waitress came back with their drinks and decided to go ahead and take their order. When it came to be Ashton's turn he offered a smiled and said, "Cheeseburger for me, thanks." ONce the waitress got their orders, Jared nudged Ashton in the ribs. Ashton turned to him. "Outside, now.[/b] Ashton was taken aback by his hushed, but stern voice. Ashton simply nodded and followed his outside. "We'll be right back. Be nice,"[/b] he told them. Outside they made their way to the back under shelter to avoid getting rained on. "What's up?" Jared balled his hand into fists. Ashton leaned agaist the wall and waited for him to explain himself. "I don't trust her, Ash.[/b] Ashton leaned of the wall, "Sorry?" Jared grit his teeth, calmed down a minute and glared at Ashton. "I don't trust her."[/b] Ashton chuckled,, "Your kidding, right? Why don't you trust her?" Jared sighed and leaned against the wall. "I have my reasons. After we eat I'll explained to you better, but she can't be with us when we talk. Just you and me." They walked into the resturant taking there seats. Jared came in with a smile, but Ashton was deep in thought. Why doesn't he trust her? She doesn't seem like a murderer or anything? What could his reasons possibly be.... God why are you making me so cofused Jared. Ashton sighed and glanced over to Jared who was acting pretty much like his happy self. What's going through your head Jared? As soon as Ashton and Jared left Mattie alone with Sam and Kevin, Sam put his arm around Mattie, "So now we're alone." Why'd the two best have to leave me alone with the two worst? Mattie looked at Sam and smiled faintly. "Dude, I'm still here," Kevin spoke. Sam looked at Kevin and smirked, "But you don't really matter." Mattie looked at the table and listened to their conversation. Kevin glared and opened his mouth to say something, but Ashton and Jared came back before he could. Thank god!
Mattie could tell by Ashton's expression that something was bothering him. She wanted to ask, but couldn't come up with the courage to. She glanced between him and Jared. Jared was happy as always, but Ashton was deep in thought. Mattie glanced behind her and noticed Sam's arm still around her. She wanted to shrug it off, but, of course, she was just too nice.

[/i] Ashton shook his head and brought himself back to life. He displayed a smile and pointed to Sam's arm wrapped around Mattie's shoulders, claiming ownership or something. "Seriously Sam. She's not your property." Sam smirked, "Jealous? Jealous that she picked me instead of you?" Jared went to defend Ashton and Mattie at the same. "First of all, Ash is the better choice between you two. Second, I don't recall her even saying she liked you or wanted to go out with her."[/b] Ashton smiled faintly. There you go, defending a girl you don't even trust. A girl you aparently have something against and your.... nice... what's up with you? The waitress offered quiet a wide grin that reached ear to ear. She placed each dish before the person which it belonged to and walked off with her marry self. Ashton stared at his cheeseburger. If he was a girl he'd probably have lost his appatite from the stress of trying to figure out what's up with Jared. But he's a guy and he was starving. He grabbed the burger and took a bite. Oh so good. Sam stared at Mattie while eating his meal. Apparently he's very determined to be the girls center of attention. Kevin stuffed his face using the least amount of manners possible. Ashton glanced over to Jared who bairly touched his food. Ashton would have asked what's wrong, but he already knew he knew the answer to that. After everyone was done eating Sam stood and threw a dollar on the table. He had to take Kevin home. Sam smiled to Mattie, "Hey you should come with us! After I drop off the squirt we can go to a party or something."[/b] Ashton didn't say anything, but Jared did, "You know what that's not that bad of an idea. Mattie let out a soft laugh and looked down at the table. I didn't pick you, but ok... She turned her head to look at Sam, smiling faintly. He wants me to give him all my attention. God, help me. She looked away, at the table. "First of all, Ash is the better choice between you two. Second, I don't recall her even saying she liked you or wanted to go out with her," Jared spoke, defending both Mattie and Ashton. Exactly! Thank you! Mattie looked up from the table and at Ashton.
Mattie just stared at her food, without an appetite. First of all, she wasn't even that hungry. Second, she felt eyes on her which was another reason she lost her appetite. She shook her head slightly and looked up. She wasn't surprised that she hadn't eaten anything all day and yet she still wasn't hungry. She was like that all the time and pretty much used to it, and I guess that was one reason why she was so thin. Though her mother's bothered by it, Mattie doesn't care.
Looking to the side, Mattie noticed that Sam was the one staring at her. She narrowed her eyes uncomfortably and tried not to look at him. Don't let him think he's in the center of your attenion. It was very hard, because when someone's eyes are on Mattie, she wants to see their expression, to see what they're doing. Of course, Sam was eating but what was left was his expression. I hope he's like this around other girls, not just me. He probably is.
Mattie looked up at Sam as he stood. "Hey you should come with us! After I drop off the squirt we can go to a party or something." Oh now you reveal your frown and the fact your bloody hiding something. "Come, man, spill it." Jared pulled on Ashton's arm, "Not here."[/b] Ashton groaned and followed his lead out of the resturant and into some near by woods. "Jared, how far do we need to go? Can't you just-" Jared turned abruptly. "Fine. Here's good."[/b] Maybe she's like his old Ex-girlfriend that came back to haunt him. Ashton laughed inwardly. Jared sighed and avoided Ashton's eyes. For him to avoid looking at me it must be big. "I... I've been keeping something from you Ashton." Ashton raised a brow, "For how long?" Jared said calmly, "Since middle school." Ashton chuckled, Since middle school? I'm thinking this is going to sound stupid. Jared then stared into Ashton's eyes. Ashton gre tense and felt as though the old man's wicked stare came back to haunt him. "I'm a supernatural hunter.[/b] Ashton bust out laughing, "Haha you mean those funny man on TV? Like that?"[/b] Jared laughed, but it was humorous. It was a "fed up laugh". "No, Ash. I'm talking about a true ass kicking werewolf slaying, burning to ashes vampire- a bloody real supernatural hunter." Ashton blinked, taken aback by his tone. He can't be serious. He's playing with my head. Ashton shook his head, "What does this have to do with Mattie?"Jared took in a deep breath trying to control his temper. "She's not human, Ashton. She's a werewolf, I know it. This 'Mattie' should be dead."[/b] Ashton narrowed his glare to Jared. "I can't believe you said that." "She has a burn mark around her wrist, Ashton. That's when I set her house on fire, with her inside! Somehow the mutt got out with a simple souvenir." Ashton shook his head and turned to leave, "You sound rediculous." Jared moved swiftly again and grabbed Ashton's arm to stop him. "I'll prove it to you."[/b] Ugh. WHy must today be so..... retarded. I'm on my way with...supernatural weirdo- don't know where or what he did with Jared to a party where he's going to "prove" Mattie's some legend werewolf. Sounds exciting. The house was booming with music and both Jared and Ashton entered with smiles on there faces. It only took seconds to locate Mattie and Sam. He still had his arm around her. Ashton ignored it and watched Jared. Like some assasion, Jared smoothly made his way through the crowd and toward Mattie. Ashton scurried through the crowd of teenagers to accompany him. Sam grinned., "Hey! There you two are! What took you so long!"[/b] Sam took a sip of his drink. Probably beer. Ashton turned to see Jared had disappeared. "Oh... traffic. You know how that is in Conway." Dude, we're about to play a major game of truth or dare! You should join."[/b] Ashton was trying to locate Jared through the crowd, "Ah..sure." Where are you Jared?Finally Ashton thought he caught site of Jared. He didn't say anything he just made his way through the crowd till he came behind him. "Jared..." The guy turned and Ashton sighed to discover it wasn't Jared. Great. He turned around and scanned the faces for Jared. There! Jared was making his was slowly through the crowd to Mattie. Ashton was about to yell his name, but stopped short of breath when he noticed he was holding a knife. Ashton reacted on instinct, forcing himself through the crowd, which wasn't suddenly easy. What the crap are you going to do?! Ashton pushed people passed him and tried to gain speed. Jared walked behind Mattie and used the knife so quickly you'd think he was just passing by. However he purposely used the sharp end of the knife to cut the surface of her lower arm. He smoothly and casually left her and disappeared back into the crowd. Ashton came up to Mattie, "Mattie!" He stared at the blood dripping from her arm. Nothing seriously thank god, but he couldn't believe his own friend would do this to prove a point. Please. Just shut up. Mattie stared out the window of Sam's car as he asked her questions about boyfriends and such. But Mattie answered them all with a calm voice. She occasionally glanced at Sam and smiled so he didn't think she was ignoring him. She stared at the moon that seemed to never leave it's same spot in the dark sky. When they reached Kevin's house, he got out of the car and waved to Mattie. She couldn't help but smile and wave back, which made him smile. She shook her head when she turned and disappeared into his house. Great, now I'm alone with Sam.
As soon as Mattie got out the car, Sam slipped his arm around her shoulders. She looked up at the sky as he lead them toward the house. What are you doing up there, God? I asked you to help. me. Well, his arm's still around me! She shook her head and entered the house with booming music. I just shouldn't have said anything to him. 'Maybe' ....I'm an idiot. She sighed and followed Sam to wherever he was going. Mattie perked up once she saw Ashton making his way toward them. Thank you, God! You fina helped me out! Now can you take his arm off of me?
Mattie watched Ashton curiously as he searched the crowd for Jared. She was also wondering where he had disappeared to. I wonder.. She searched the crowd for his face, but she couldn't spot him. She watched as Ashton made his way to the other side of the room, where Mattie didn't see Jared at all. He's not over there. Or maybe I just can't see him. Mattie sighed and glanced to the side at Sam. She smiled faintly to herself when she witnessed Ashton coming back toward them. But he seemed in a rush, and if he didn't get to his destination in time, something...bad would happen.
Mattie suddenly felt a sharp surface make contact with her arm and cut her across the lower arm. She slipped out of Sam's arm when she stumbled to the side. Her eyes widened as she glanced down at her arm and noticed a clean cut on her lower arm. She watched blood drip from the wound. "Mattie!" She looked up to see Ashton. She then looked down at her arm curiously. What...? She didn't know who or what would have done this. But it had to be something. And why?

[/i][/b] Sam actually appeared concerned. "She's not your cupcake Sam." Ashton shot him a warning glare which made him jump and walk off to find another girl to call his. Ashton sighed and gently grabbed Mattie's hand. He lifted it slowly until he discovered the cut on her lower arm. Blood slowly crawled down her arm. "I just got you bandaged up and look at ya, getting another scratch. You really must like me taking care of you,"[/b] Ashton spoke in a playful voice offering a smile. He didn't want to come off as suspicious. I don't want to take Jared's blame. Ashton led her to the upstairs bathroom where aid kits were much easier to locate. "Does it hurt?" He grabbed two large bandades. He spoke while ripping the paper of the bandade. "All they seem to have are bandades. Sorry."[/b] Ashton smirked and walked over to her added something humorous to lighten the mood, "No hello-kitty either." He playful frowned then laughed. A knock was heard at the door frame as Ashton placed the last Bandade on her arm. He didn't look up from what he was doing. "Be out in a sec." When he finished he glanced over to the door way and froze. It was Jared. Jared wore a typical smile. "She ok? Heard she got hurt by Sam."[/b] Ashton narrowed his eyes ever so slightly. "She's fine." "Not feeling 'sick' or anything?"[/b] Ashton raised a brow. What are you thinking, Jared. I really wish I could read minds right about now. "What's wrong cupcake?" Mattie ignored Sam and observed the wound curiously. It looks like...a knife cut me." She knew what knife cuts looked life, since her mother had a million on her from her husband. She looked up at Ashton as he defended her,"She's not your cupcake Sam." Mattie smiled and looked up at the ceiling, as she did at the sky, Thank you, finally, God! She looked at Ashton and watched him gently take her hand and lift it until he saw her wound. She glanced between the cut and Ashton's face. "I just got you bandaged up and look at ya, getting another scratch. You really must like me taking care of you," he spoke. She laughed softly and shook her head, smiling.

[/i][/b] Ashton felt a rush of pride flood over him. She was opening up to him, and he liked that. Haha, she's cute when she's humorous back. Ashton held up his finger, "Hold on." He searched through the bathroom, surprised to find a black sharpy. Ashton took it and popped off the lid. with his free hand he picked up her arm and held it as he drew hello-kitty on the bandaids. While doing so he started laughed, "There we go. Now you don't have to be so sad." He glanced up at her and offered a smile. There faces were only an inch apart and for a moment Ashton felt the urge to kiss her. Ashton cleared his though after Jared spoke and popped the sharpy's head back on and threw it to the side. "No," Mattie told Jared bluntly. Ashton took a couple step back, giving Mattie space. "A small cut like that wont make her sick, Jared. She'll be fine." Ashton made his way by Jared and started to go down stairs, "Be down stairs if you need me." Jared watched Ashton walk down stairs then turned to Mattie, offering a smile. "There we go. Now you don't have to be so sad." Mattie looked at the bandaid to see Ashton's drawn hello-kitty. She laughed and smiled brightly,"Well, thank you."
[/b] Her smile faded when she realized their faces were just inches away, but not by much. There was still just a small smile on her lips. Though she tensed just a bit. She pushed herself more against the wall and when she heard Jared's voice, she glanced over Ashton. "A small cut like that wont make her sick, Jared. She'll be fine. Be down stairs if you need me." Mattie watched Ashton make his way downstairs before she looked at Jared at the same time he looked at her. "Do you like him, Mattie?" She blinked at the question. She had learned not to say anything about like anyone around Ashton's friends. So, instead of saying anything she just shrugged. Let him take it how ever he wants to. At least he's not like Sam..
